Magazine Inspiration - Hungry Eye

Another magazine which has caught our eye during the process is 'Hungry Eye Magazine'.
They are a photography and film making magazine who specialise in art house films and photography.
We felt this would be an appropriate magazine for us as our film is an art house film and we wanted to emphasise on the fresh feel as it is a new magazine and has the same target audience as 'under the same sun'.
The reason for why STUDIO is difficult to use is because the STUDIO title would cover the forehead of the image we are using, which could come across careless.

Magazine Inspiration- STUDIO

We have been inspired to use STUDIO magazine cover because our main actress' are women, we love how this magazine celebrates achieving and women and their huge role in the film industry.  Our film features two women who are on their way to becoming successful actresses in the ruthless industry.  We are going to aim to create a similar piece as the magazine above. Carey Mulligan is a huge inspiration to our actresses and what they aspire to be like and that has caught our attention. Carey Mulligan role has been present during the preparation of our trailer E.G 'Never let me go'.

Experimenting (Little White Lies)

Our initial idea of the magazine cover was to go with the creativeness of Little White Lies.
We took an image of our actress and tried to style it in the Little White Lies theme.
However we do not think it is suitable enough for our magazine cover and have decided to opt for STUDIO instead.

Magazine Inspiration- Little White Lies

We were also very inspired by the 'Little White Lies' magazine because of its creative way they publicise an up and coming film. The close up and simple pictures but edited uniquely drawing the audience in. We like how every Little White Lies cover is an art house piece as we feel that our poster is as out there as the Little White Lies magazine covers.
However, as much as we have been inspired by Little White Lies, we feel that our poster is the art of our production and so we think we should go for a more mainstream approach with the magazine cover.

Final Poster

The idea of our poster was made to suit an independent film, therefore we made it that extra bit different. We are all extremely happy with the final poster as we worked hard to create a professional and creative poster.

Making The Poster

These are the steps in which we created our poster. We made changes along the way, as we can see we changed the red heart to a more discreet red which is also a similar colour to our titles in the trailer. We spent some time experimenting with backgrounds, colours and themes and came up with the creative background.

Initial Idea's- Poster

Initial Ideas for the poster.
The idea of a heart inside a triangle represents the storyline of 'under the same sun' of a love triangle.
It is a powerful image which is likely to catch the attention of others with the detailed image of a real life heart.

Under The Same Sun

Our final trailer.

Finally finished, We are very proud and excited to present to you Under the Same Sun.
Directed, Produced and Edited by Rahel Petros, Layan Akkad and Abigail Meakins.

Enjoy.

Using type live

Typelive was really helpful when making titles, we were able to make our titles as complex as we wanted to with a really professional element, our titles ended up looking really great and they were definitely something we are all really proud of. Also on the audience feedback in the evaluation we had some positive comments on our titles.

Filming update 2 (day 2/3)

We were able to do a lot today some of the scenes we wanted to do really didn't work so we had to change them. Initially we wanted a shot of Lewis skateboarding but we couldn't get a hold of a skate board so we had to move on. On the other hand shooting the girls on the bike was a great success, although a tripod out of a car was risky (we were driving very slowly) it really paid off and we were able to get some really nice shots.

Todo list and what has been done so far.

Film update!
Half way through filming we've decided to see how much we've done by looking at our story board.
We're seeing what we've done. What we need to do. And what we want.

The purple is what has been done and so we do not need to worry about this now.
The blue is what we are currently unsure  as to whether  we need this footage, it is not necessary.
The yellow is what still has to be filmed and edited and it is necessary footage for the trailer.

Filming update (day 1)

The first day of filming went great, the lighting was not really on our side as the location was a long drive so unfortunately we couldn't get some shots that we wanted, however the shots that we did get are looking really good, and we managed to improvise with some locations like the supermarket! we are scheduled to film 2 more times and at the moment we seem to be on track!

Possible Song Choices

Lykke li- I know Places
We liked this song choice as it sets the mood and brings out the correct emotions we want the audience to feel.
It also gives away as much of the storyline as we want in the trailer which can make the audience want to see the film.

Lecrea- Chase that intro
We like the pace of this music as it starts slow and peaceful but the pace starts to quicken adding tension and excitement which could make the audience want to know more. This links in well with the trailer as there is a lot of tension and anticipation.

Jose gonzales- Heartbeats
We loved the mood this portrays and the peaceful feel it gives off to the audience.
However we feel it may be too mellow and is too optimistic, but we would like to perhaps use it in the trailer.

Location Shots.

Instead of simply just taking some pictures of a few places we were thinking of filming at and taking the risk of not really depicting what we want to say properly we thought it would be easier, more effective and generally a bit more fun to take the viewer along the road of what we are thinking with our Location. Also as most of our prominent filming is taking place at Box Hill which is quite far from us it made sense that pictures just wouldn't do it justice.
Thus this short film.

Enjoy,
Rahel, Layan and Abi.

Music for Trailer - Inspiration & Potential.

We've thought long and hard about the soundtrack we want to use in the background of our trailer. And i was a unanimous decision to use something with no lyrics and quite classical like. The trailer ' Tree of Life' Inspired us a great deal...

However we are no going to let this restrict us. If we do find something with lyrics and fits so perfectly then we are more than happy to compromise. To be honest our idea's arent set into stone, and we are playing some aspects of our trailer by ear, which we believe will sometimes produce the most ingenious happenings which defiantly takes a load of our shoulders.

Although, it does appear that we may ger our wish as we happened to stumble across this unknown rapper who has a 40 second instrumental which seems to work absolutely perfectly.

When we came across this, the excitement we felt was incredible. It captures what we are envisioning so perfectly. the slow start which then quickens and grows more intense and then to stop quite abruptly. So we're keeping this soundtrack very close to us. Our only issue with it is the length of it. As our trailer isn't going to be 44seconds this may cause some trouble. However we are going to stay optimistic as things seem to be tying in together very nicely, we are aware of some other potential soundtracks that we could use and we are very happy with the one we have found so far.

Finished Story Board

Our finished story board with the dialogue and
music we wanted.

New Male Actor.

Our previous male actor, recently got arrested for misconduct of illegal substances. We were therefore no longer able to use him, And to be honest were apprehensive to even use him in the first place. However this did not stop us.We were able to find the beautiful Lewis Miller, previously known for his featuring in "Best Film in the World" and "WOW, dude this film is great" in both he won 2 Oscars for best actor and best male role. So we were very  privileged to have him on our team.

Casting Shots

Emma Coull- Age 18
Emma is a prestigious drama student whose talent is perfect for the film.
She is recognised for her art house dramas. She lives local and so she would be easy to contact and meet to film. We liked Emma's look and also like how she has taken grasp of her character India.

Jack Algar- Age 17
Jack does not act however he has done modelling in the past and his look is appealing. He represent the character of Ben the 'cheating and player' side. However we understood that he would struggle to portray the more sensitive and loving side of Ben.

Lucy Wagstaffe- Age 18
Lucy was the first person we thought of when deciding who to cast for the role of Ayla. This is because of her current acting skills and her incredible talents. She is known and recognised for her incredible dramas she has previously been in. She is constantly in school productions and stood out largely. We wanted to get her on our team from day 1.

Storyboard (first draft)

This is the first draft of our storyboard, we will be making an animated version of this as well as a photographic storyboard where we will use pictures we have taken of the location shots or images we want to re-create. The triangles represent titles and underneathe the drawings are the shots we will use, I think we have used a varied amount of camera shots.

Shot Inspirations

Here below are links to some inspirational cool shots of people skate boarding, running and different creative ways of using mese en scene's. These different videos and pictures inspire us all in different ways to use the camera and mese en scene. For example we would like to incorporate skateboarding (1 & 3) due to the fast pace which could go well with our trailer. And the colour powder used in the wind in 2) adds a beautiful soft feel, in contrast of the fireworks used in video 1) add this exciting shocking feel.

Picking the characteristics of our Cast.

Casting and Characters.

Finding the right cast for our Trailer has been much harder than we first expected. We have got an image imprinted in our minds and we are not prepared to settle till we are successful in finding the perfect cast. First and formost we want India and Ayla to have Different coloured hair, India preferably Brunett and Ayla Blond.

Ayla
India

However we do not want this to be a restriction and we will not be to disappointed if we find two brunetts or two blond to be best friends if they fit all other criteria's. The reason we wanted a Blond and Brunett for the two best friends is it is a good way to distinguish between the two in the trailer especially in the quick scenes with Ben. Also it has always worked extremely well in other films such as 'Bride Wars' (*1)  'Something Borrowed', Kathy and Ruth from 'Never Let Me Go' (*2) and so on, it is a very good generic look to have for best friends.
       *1  *2
However to steer away from that generic, hollywood feel of Blond girls steeling the boyfriend or being the flirty one we have made Ayla the Blond "The victim" and India will be the Brunett.
The look we have for India and Ayla is a really quirky, urban, tribally look. These are just some idea's to express what look we're thinking...

For Ben we have no preference on the colour of his hair. But with him we also want him to have a quirky, urban, skater look, really into his arts and filming, this will allow us to incorporate vintage films and pictures in our trailer.
